The short answer? Life. Isn’t that always the case? Ol’ life getting in the way.
The long answer?
I just got back from Mexico.
I missed my dog.
And I’m tired. Did I mention I was tired?
It’s the busiest time of the year at work, making September NYFW a tough sell in the first place. That, paired with just getting back from a week long trip and deciding that I should
probably absolutely work over the weekend instead of enjoying a delicious trip to NYC really hammered that nail in the coffin.
I will never be one of those a*holes who’s over Fashion Week. You know the ones I’m talking about; Those select few that can’t go because they’re “sick” or “traveling” or all of a sudden completely over it. I’ll never understand that. I’ll always be bummed that I missed out on adventures, events, and opportunities, but sometimes it’s just not in the cards. And there’s no shame in that. This season was one of those times. Pros: I don’t have to deal with outfit planning in 90 degree weather. Cons: Everything else.
A few of you have asked me if Fashion Week is ‘out’. True, I’ve noticed (via social media) that fewer bloggers made the trip this season but in my opinion, Fashion Week will never be out of style or uncool or just a fad. Maybe for the ones who go there for the Instagram, but there are plenty more of us who go to experience the week and enjoy the hell out of it no matter what shows we’re invited to (or not invited to). You can bet your sweet ass that I’ll be attending as many seasons as I’m able to because IT’S AWESOME. Ain’t no shame in my NYFW fan girl game; This is something I grew up watching and because of a tiny style blog, and a little networking, I get to attend. Call me crazy, but 13 year old me is proud. The week is what you make it. If you make it superficial and bullshit-y, it’ll be superficial and bullshit-y. But if you go to a few shows you’re giddy over, meet with a couple PR firms, and schedule a few happy hour turned 1am nights with New York friends, well pal, that seems like a pretty kick ass week to me.
What’s your opinion of the week? Are you guys more interested in the runway looks or are you more into the behind-the-scenes social media aspect? I’d love to know what you think so the posts I write next February are ones you’ll be interested in reading.
