There were loads of noteworthy moments at NYFW last week. I ran into ultimate girl crush & major inspiration, Kelly Cutrone, I sauntered behind Linda Fargo for a solid 5 minutes before realizing the overwhelming amount of greatness in one human I was walking behind, I had some pretty stellar continental breakfast experiences at the hotel, & I made a boatload of new friends — which is always one of my favorite parts. But let’s skip the chit-chat & just get right down to it, shall we?
The best moment of my NYFW SS14 was the 7 second exchange I had with Regis Philbin. Yes, I’m unhealthily obsessed with all things fashion but I was born & raised on Notre Dame football & that love obsession is in the forefront of my mind 24/7 even at a NYFW runway show. Obviously. So back to my story about how Regis & I are bffls. I spotted him from across the Carmen Marc Valvo runway show, which was insanely magical btdubs, sitting next to his fashion guru wife. Knowing full well we [Notre Dame] were scheduled to play Michigan the next day [huge rivalry here] I was overcome with the NEED to talk to him about it. This was my moment. I’d watched him talk about the ups & downs of Notre Dame football for years while on Regis & Kelly & I’d always thought of what I might say to him if we ever met. Once the show ended, I dodged Kelly Osbourne & the cast of Orange Is The New Black to get to my intended target. He had handlers both in front & behind him rushing him backstage so I knew my window was minisucle. I dropped the thought of asking for a picture & channeled all of my nervous energy into getting out a confident, “Go Irish.” You should have seen the man’s face. Here he had been, sitting at what might as well have been a beauty pageant to him & some rando lady starts in with his sacred irish football. His stunned response: “Big game tomorrow, kiddo.” It was a moment, I tell you. I could have sworn that from the time the words fell out of my mouth to him turning in shock, smiling huge, & speaking to me was a solid 15 minutes. Albeit very nearly around 7 seconds in passing, it was some of the best 7 seconds of my life.
This exchange occurred on the second day of fashion week. Far be it from me to understand the world of pain I would soon be in due to lack of sleep, lack of time to sit down & enjoy a meal, & lack of reasonable comfortable shoes. I’m all for padded inserts where you can get them, ladies, but unless those shoes were built comfy, you’ve got no shot in hell to survive a NYFW day. To successfully make it through the 96 hour ordeal, I relied heavily on the muffins & bananas I hoarded from breakfast, a variety of Dr. Scholl’s inserts, a solid variety of daily footwear, my favorite Lily’s flats to get to & from venues in one piece, my essential Stila face paint – which included multiple touch ups during the sweltering hot days, & perhaps the most beneficial tool of all – the GLAM Insider iPad app.
The app was my source for all things style and fashion & included daily survival tips [hello helpful], interviews with a few of my favorite designers & bloggers, fashion trends and tips, & coverage from important events. Not only was it super helpful to survive NYFW, it was a great resource to use in my “downtime”. There’s nothing better than reviewing a typical day of The Glamourai before getting a little shut eye at 4 in the afternoon! Best part about the Glam Insider iPad app? It’s not just for Fashion Week. The first installment was launched to help us fashion lovers get through this grueling yet fabulous week but the next release will offer even more. Test drive this app for yourself here.
Stay tuned for more inside scoop of my Fashion Week experience in the coming days here on District Sparkle!
