It’s been quite a while since I embarked on a wardrobe overhaul so I’m thinking this summer is the perfect opportunity for a fashionable upgrade.
I’m starting with the tried & true rule of: If you haven’t worn it in 6 months, if it doesn’t fit, & if you know you’ll never wear it again, donate it. If it’s torn & hasn’t made it to the repair shop in 3 months, toss it. If it needs to be tailored, send it out before shopping ’til you drop. You may already have the perfect white linen skirt that you forgot about since it’s 2 sizes too big & you just haven’t gotten it tailored.
Once the superfluous pieces are sorted appropriately, sort your closet seasonally by type. Tanks, tops, dresses, skirts, etc. This will give you more well-rounded picture of the staples you need & the fun pieces you can add.
Now onto the fun part. I like to shop alone so I don’t get friend-pressured into buying those white lace shorts that are super gorg but super impractical for my lifestyle. Make sure you’re being realistic about the pieces that you purchase. Don’t ever buy an item of clothing that you will fit into. Buy for what you actually fit into. Have no fear, most pieces can usually be taken in. If you just gotta have that second opinion, send a friend a picture!
Lastly, with summer markdowns happening nearly every weekend & with Labor Day just around the corner, make sure that you’re saving when you can. If that means waiting until Labor Day for your shopping splurge or holding off until the weekend to hit up the outlet stores in the ‘burbs, your bank account will thank you!
I desperately need to do this and yet keep putting it off — first order of business, clean some stuff out via Poshmark and donating!
What a great post – I desperately need to do this, so many clothes that I haven’t worn that just need a trip to the Tailor!
