After 25 years in this city of mine, the heavy summer heat still knocks me on my tail & has me constantly staring blankly into my closet hoping that perhaps today will be the day my office allows caftans as accepted apparel. Since there’s a legitimate zero chance of that happening in my lifetime, I rely on a few trusty staples to get me thru these hellish DC summers.
Blazer: It’s rare to find me in anything with sleeves when the summer heats up & since I’ve never been a fan of cardigans & bare arms are a widely recognized faux-pas around the conference table I’m constantly reaching for blazers. Solid, patterned, or tweed, blazers are a great piece to invest in & I don’t think you can ever have enough.
Nude heel: I find it difficult to get inspired to wear cute heels when I know I’ll be schvitzing like I’m in the Sahara seconds after I walk out my front door. When I feel like giving myself a little break I reach for my favorite pair of nude pumps. These suckers have seen me thru the hottest DC days.
Tapered & Wide leg pants: It’s tempting to reach for a dress 5 days out of the week but sometimes, the occassion calls for covered legs. My advice? Stay as far away from tight anything as you possibly can. I prefer a patterned, tapered leg or a wide leg in any pattern or solid. Keep it light & breezy!
For more ways to beat the heat this summer, shop some of my other favorites!
My favs are the striped blazer, window pane top, & the nude wedge-pumps (probably very comfy too!)
