Heading to Bangkok at the end of the month. Pretty sure I should treat myself to a new travel wardrobe. Starting with this bag.
Speaking of flying 22 hours to an Asian capital city… Has anyone ever been? Where should I go? What should I see? Phuket, Chiang Mai, and a slew of southern peninsula beaches are on my list.
Congrats on your upcoming trip to Thailand! I just went in April and these are the things I enjoyed/recommend. While in Bangkok make sure to visit one of the many rooftop bars. Octave at the Marriott is lovely. Also, visit the Temples- Wat Pho, The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew are must sees. Chatuchak weekend market is great for shopping, eating, and people watching but it is overwhelming. If you can squeeze a jaunt to Sukhumvit Soi 38 your tummy will thank you. Chiang Mai is absolutely beautiful. The Night Market is great for more shopping and Basil Cooking school was phenomenal—you make a 6 course meal. If you take the ferry to the beaches, make sure to stay overnight. Ko Phi Phi was beautiful and has many places for photo ops.I’ve also heard great things about Ko Samai. Have fun and enjoy.
I took my first trip to Thailand earlier this year, too!!! I recommend the Grand Palace (note: shoulders and knees must be covered and arrive early to avoid the tour buses)and the night market for Bangkok. It’s super easy to get around using the Sky Train (metro). I found Bangkok super crowded and hot, so if I went back I would probably just stay for a day or two. Chiang Mai is beautiful; my biggest regret is not going to the elephant reserve to see the animals in their natural habitat – you have to reserve ahead of time and it’s for a full day ***please please please do NOT ride an elephant under any circumstance; these majestic animals are not built to carry additional weight, and they are often abused and experience inhumane treatment during their “training.” I also highly recommend a side trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia – seeing Angkor Wat and the other wats was the highlight of my trip! Koh Samui is a lovely island, and I’ve heard mixed things about Krabi/Phuket…I think the party scene results in some trashy beaches.
