When it comes to summer in this city, pants are simply not an option for those of us who rely on public transportation. Walking through Georgetown, waiting 10 minutes for the red line or sitting on the Connector at a stop light all the while donning a pair of your favorite JCrew chinos? Fashionable but uncomfortable as ever.
Instead of dealing with the unsightly & uncomfortable situation of pantaloons in the outrageous heat, opt for a cooler version of the power play: the pencil skirt. Even in a conservative black, options are unlimited.
What’s your favorite get-up to sport in this overwhelming heat?
You know I love me some pencil skirts! I can’t believe I don’t own any patterned ones and that needs to be corrected ASAP! Thanks for sharing.

Though I’ve been blessed thus far with a work environment that allows shorts and sundresses into my regular wardrobe, I definitely need to add a few pencil skirts for extra panache — especially love that Ann Taylor mint-hued one!
Totally living in dresses and skirts right now. NYC temps are killer this week!

The weather here is unbearable. Hoping it’s appropriate to wear a beach cover-up on casual Friday…
I am definitely into wearing a solid black pencil skirt. I think pairing it with a fun print on top is a great way to stand out. I like wearing maxi skirts also while going through the overwhelming heat.
Always,

this is great. i’m starting a big-girl job in DC soon and pencil skirts are what i need!
Lots more [closet staples] posts coming soon. Hope I can help with the wardrobe revamp! xx
bubble/mini skirts! But the pencil skirt is chic.

Definitely love a good print when the heat is on. Nothing hides a little perspiration better when a gal is crammed onto streetcar like a sardine in 30+ weather!
